Collection: Pierre Auguste Renoir

Pierre Auguste Renoir was a French artist recognized as one of the leading painters in developing the impressionist style. He started as an apprentice to a porcelain painter and studied drawing during his leisure. He learned copy designs to decorate plates and dishwares. He also started doing other types of decorative painting to earn a living. He took free drawing classes at the city-sponsored art school. After years of struggling as a painter, he helped launch Impressionism, an artistic movement in the 1870s. He eventually became one of the most famous artists of the early twentieth century.
